Our Mission

WESG’s mission is to strengthen the ability of its members and partners to resist, respond, react to and recover from a terrorist attack, major security incident or serious event (such as diseases, natural hazards, major accidents or societal risks).  While its primary purpose is tackling the threat of terrorism, WESG’s rationale fully aligns with the dangers outlined in the National Risk Register, as well as the work of Westminster City Council’s Borough Resilience Forum.

Resist

In seeking to disrupt and deter potential terrorist activity we aim to improve awareness and understanding by business about methods of attack and enhance the ability to identify suspicious behaviour.  We look to better connect businesses to share information and ensure they have proportionate and effective security measures in place.

Respond

In preparing for the consequences of disruption we aim to ensure that businesses have an appropriate level of planning in place, especially small and medium enterprises that are more vulnerable to significant and extended interruptions.  Our focus is on ensuring that key business activity is maintained during the course of an incident.

React

We recognise the disorientating effects a major incident can produce and the value of effective crisis management.  Our aim is to ensure that businesses have the confidence and capability to deal with the challenges that arise in the immediate aftermath of an event based on effective training, systems and procedures.

Recover

We understand that even if possible, the return to normality after an incident may be an extended process.  Our aim is to ensure that the recovery needs of business and the wider area are understood and that we support both in restoring core activity, helping people and ensuring businesses not only survive, but thrive.
